Planetwalk Africa
February 10, 2023 - February 14, 2023
In 1987, Dr. John Francis graduated from Southern Oregon University with the long-term goal of walking and sailing around the planet as part of his education, in the spirit and hope to benefit all of us.
Having walked across North America and the length of South America, earning a master’s degree from the University of Montana, a Ph.D. in environmental studies from the Gaylord Nelson Institute at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Francis, a former UNEP goodwill ambassador to the world’s grassroots communities has shared his inspirational journey with millions around the world.
Now he is embarking on a 5,000-mile Planetwalk walk the length of Africa, from Cape Town to Khartoum. John says Planetwalking is more a prayer and a metaphor for life. “It’s a sacred journey with geographic and interior landscapes.” This walk is a return to humanity’s birthplace to be with the people, to learn how Africa and Africans connect and contribute to the world and its people during climate change, listening to children discovering indigenous wisdom.
February 2023, Dr. Francis will begin Planetwalk Africa: The First Hundred Miles, from Cape Point, Cape Town, South Africa, to Khartoum and beyond.
